Dr. Ghulam Rasul Zahid, PSP, is a career officer of the Police Service of Pakistan with over three and a half decades of distinguished service — commanding institutions at provincial and national levels — alongside a parallel identity as a prolific Islamic scholar and Urdu author whose books are published by the National Book Foundation of Pakistan.
Beginning as a Lecturer of English in 1988, he entered the Civil Services of Pakistan in 1991 and served across Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, and internationally. Rising to Additional Inspector General, he commanded Police College Sihala — the premier police training institution of Punjab — twice, and led the Motorway Police North Region and the Investigation Branch of Punjab. His service as International Police Officer with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK, 2004–05) placed him among a rare cohort of Pakistani officers who have shaped post-war governance on an international stage.
Simultaneously, he pursued an extraordinary academic journey: seven formal degrees across English Literature, Islamic Studies, Islamic Thought, Law, and a Ph.D. in Quran & Tafseer — making him one of the very few PSP officers with doctoral specialisation in Islamic scripture. His eleven published books and eighteen peer-reviewed articles span Islamic governance, criminal jurisprudence, Urdu poetry, travel writing, and children's fiction. Two M.Phil. researchers have written their theses specifically on his literary contribution.
